The Elder Scrolls Online: Dungeons – Stonefalls – Fungal Grotto
These extensive caverns in the volcanic rock beneath Stonefalls were once used for unknown purposes by the ancient Chimer, but were abandoned by the Elves long ago. Now they are the haunt of Goblins and other denizens of the underworld.
Fungal Grotto is a group dungeon found in western Stonefalls. The cave is infested with goblins and dreugh, though the goblins are scared of something dark lurking deep within the grotto. In the normal version, Vila Theran wants you to clear the path to a shrine hidden within the grotto.
In the veteran version, Defender Two-Blades needs you to defeat the Spider Cultists who have taken control of a dangerous artifact called the Obsidian Husk.

– Tazkad the Packmaster –
Tazkad casts Agony, a high magic damage attack which briefly stuns the tank. This should be interrupted.
Blood Craze is a physical damage over time attack applied on the tank. The damage isn’t that high and it can’t be avoided. Just eat it up.
– Warchief Ozazai –
Ozazai initiates the fight with Shock Assault, a dramatic leap towards the main target, dealing physical damage to all targets caught in its point of impact.
Ozazai has two Murkwater War Guard adds with him who be should be dealt with as soon as possible. The adds plant a Dragonknight standard which deals AoE Fire damage to everyone in its radius. They also have a Charge ability, which deals high physical damage and knocks targets down in the area of effect. Focusing them down makes the fight a lot more manageable.
The main thing the tank needs to look out for is Ozazai’s heavy attack called Haymaker. It’s a very high physical damage attack with a knock down component.
The main mechanic of the fight is Daedric Blast. From time to time, Ozazai will target players with a red beam. The player will soon get a red circle beneath them, indicating the explosion radius of the Daedric Blast. After a few seconds the explosion will go off, dealing high magic damage to all targets caught in its radius. If you get the red beam on you, you should move away from the rest of the group to not blow them up.
When Ozazai gets on low Health, he periodically casts a physical damage AoE shout called Staggering Roar. Anyone caught in it will take a lot of physical damage. You can avoid it by outranging it.
– Bloodbirther –
The main mechanic, which the tank needs to look out for, is a channeled frontal cone AoE ability called Shocking Rake. It deals periodic lightning damage to anyone caught in the area. The damage isn’t that high, but as soon as the adds are dead you have nothing else to look out for, so there’s no reason not to avoid it.
Bloodbirther occasionally pulls random targets at range towards it, which is more of an annoyance than anything else.
– Clatterclaw –
Clatterclaw barely does anything interesting by himself. He periodically summons a large number of mudcrabs to fight for him. As long as your group can burst them down quickly, the fight is very simple. If you choose to ignore them and tank them instead, you’ll probably die.
– Kra’gh the Dreugh King –
The main mechanic is his AoE lightning attack called Lightning Field. It deals roughly 400 lightning damage depending on your mitigations, which can be enough to one-shot a bad geared player. A red circle appears beneath him and it increases rapidly in size. If you fail to get away in time, you’ll take lots of lightning damage.
You can often tell when lightning field is about to be cast. The boss likes to pull players to him. The lightning field tends to happen right after a pull has occured.
The tank needs to look out for a cast called Lunging strike, which will briefly knock the tank down, and a channeled lightning attack called Storm Flurry.
Kra’gh also periodically summons a horde of mudcrabs which need to be bursted down with AoE.

Veteran Fungal Grotto Guide
– Mephala’s Fang –
This is a fairly easy boss fight. There is a giant spider and 2 healer adds. The Spider has AoE circles and a frontal attack. Since she is a spider, all of these attacks are poison…sorry Werewolves.
DPS should take out the healers first, then focus on the boss. Stay out of the red.
I haven’t seen this, but according to my research if someone does die, the spider can run to the corpse and feed, allowing her to heal. This can be stopped with an interrupt. It’s easier to stop it by just resurrecting anyone that happens to die as soon as possible.
– Gamyne Bandu –
There are a few mechanics to look out for here:
The boss casts a beam between two members. You need to run away from each other immediately.
Four adds will pop up and tie one member down. There will be a large purple blade that slowly moves down toward that player. Kill one add before the blade gets to the player and they will be released. If you don’t make it in time, they will be killed. The easiest way around this mechanic is for everyone to focus on one of the adds.
- Ignore the adds and DPS the boss quickly (preferred).
- Take out the adds, then focus on the boss. If you pick this method, get ready for a long fight. She has some significant damage mitigation as soon as the adds are gone. Our DPS dropped down to about 10% of normal levels. Nothing was particularly tough, it just took a long time.
- Portal: A portal will open up in the cave behind the boss. It pulls the closest player in. There are a bunch of spider adds inside. The player will remain in the portal until all the adds are down, and then they are returned to the fight.
- AoE: The boss will glow purple and then put an AoE circle on the floor. Hard hitting attack…stay out of the red.
- If you look above the boss, you will see two spots that shoot light beams. If you get touched by a beam, an AoE circle will pop up around you. Don’t get stuck in this. If this attack and the boss’ AoE hit at the same time, it’s pretty much instant death.
Managing the portal is the toughest part of this fight. If the tank or healer gets pulled in, the group can get in trouble quickly. We pick one DPS (Preferably someone with good AoE damage that is not a WW). That person’s job is to stand at the entrance to the cave and DPS from that spot. Every time the portal opens they will get pulled in.
The rest of the group handles the boss fight like any other. However, you do need to move quite a bit to stay out of the red.
– Reggr Dark-Dawn –
Clear the room before starting this fight. Pick a side, hop into that corner of the room and clear the adds. Repeat on the other side.
This is a fairly easy fight, he has two main mechanics:
- Whirling Attack: Stay out of the big red circle.
- Magicka Drain: He pulls everyone in and drains magicka.
– Vila Theran –
The strategy for this boss is simple. Stay stacked up and away from the boss. Use ranged DPS. She will teleport to you and drop AoE circles. They will slowly expand and hit hard. So when she teleports, stack up on the other side of the room.
She also has a lightning beam attack.
(Gold Key): The easiest way to avoid this is by running into the bubble for protection, and then running back. DON’T DO THIS IF YOU WANT THE GOLD KEY.
(GOLD KEY METHOD) If you want the extra achievement/gold key, the healer will just have to heal you through it. It is fairly easy to earn this Gold Key, so I recommend just avoiding the bubble altogether. Melee DPS, make sure you switch to ranged for this fight.
